5 K-Dramas You Should Never Suggest — But Can’t Stop Watching

There are some K-Dramas that are masterpieces. And then there are others? So over-the-top, strange, or cringe-worthy that you’d never confess to adoring them. but you’ve watched every episode twice. Here are five Korean dramas that land in that so-bad-it’s-good category — ones we don’t admit to loving, but secretly can’t get enough of.

1. Oh My Venus (2015)
This rom-com drama features Shin Min-a and So Ji-sub in a makeover trope that didn’t exactly stand the test of time. From fat suits to cringeworthy beauty standards, to hilariously unrealistic training montages, the plot frequently borders on problematic. Even so, the chemistry is undeniable, and it’s difficult not to wish for their glow-up success.

2. Boys Over Flowers (2009)
A melodrama and a crazy ride. The plot is an emotional rollercoaster of bullying, billionaires, and outlandish fashion. It’s crazily dramatic, super toxic, and inexplicably still iconic. You’ll cringe every time Gu Jun-pyo speaks — and you just can’t stop watching.

3. The Heirs (2013)
High schoolers behaving like 40-year-old CEOs? Check. Triangles of love galore? Check. Cheesy English scenes in Malibu? Check. Lee Min-ho and Park Shin-hye’s star power won’t bail this drama out of its melodrama disaster — but fans devour it like candy anyway.

4. Cafe Minamdang (2022)
A criminology expert turned imposter shaman cracking cases with theatrical drama? It’s a hybrid genre that doesn’t compute, and yet you’re caught up in Seo In-guk’s over-the-top disguises, ectoplasmic cons, and manic antics. You know it’s crazy, but you can’t stop watching.

5. Love Alarm (2019)
The concept of a dating app that tells you if someone around you is a fan of you is dystopian and brilliant. Unfortunately, the characters are emotionally constipated, and the melodrama takes itself too seriously. Even so, the love triangle and slick camera work are so addictive that you’ll find yourself rewatching it — or twice.

These dramas are not going to win awards for narration or social commentary, but they do steal our hearts — quietly, shamefully, and fervently. Watch at your own risk. or guilty pleasure.
