Six Emiratis were injured in a four-vehicle collision on Emirates Road in Sharjah on Friday afternoon, according to the police. Some of the victims had to be airlifted to the hospital due to serious injuries.
Initial investigations suggest that speeding and distracted driving were major factors behind the crash, Sharjah Police said.
Crash Details
One vehicle was found to have exceeded the speed limit, and the driver failed to notice the traffic ahead, explained Abdullah Al Munazari, head of the Traffic and Patrol Department of Sharjah Police.
The speeding vehicle then collided with the traffic jam, causing a pile-up. Four cars were involved in the crash on the Emirates Road lane from Al Badie Bridge toward Bridge No. 7, according to the police report.
Emergency teams quickly responded, finding drivers and passengers with injuries ranging from moderate to severe. Some victims were airlifted to the hospital for immediate medical attention.
Calls for Safer Driving
Al Munazari urged drivers to take responsibility on the road and obey all traffic laws. He stressed that speeding and distracted driving are major causes of accidents in the UAE.
To increase road safety, police forces nationwide have been running awareness campaigns, warning the public about the dangers of distracted driving.
