Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has expanded its network to over 740 EV Green Charger points across Dubai, driving the city’s increasing adoption of electric vehicles. As of October 2024, Dubai is home to more than 34,970 electric vehicles, marking a significant step towards sustainable mobility.

The EV Green Charger network offers ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers. Since its launch in 2014, the initiative has benefited 16,828 customers, with Dewa supplying approximately 31,674 megawatt hours of electricity to electric vehicles by September 2024.

Finding Charging Stations Made Easy

Customers can easily locate EV Green Charger stations through Dewa’s website, smart app, and 14 other digital platforms, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience.

Aiming for a Greener Future

“The EV Green Charger initiative is part of Dewa’s effort to build advanced EV charging infrastructure and support Dubai’s growing adoption of electric vehicles,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Dewa’s managing director and CEO. He highlighted that the UAE’s goal is to have 50% of vehicles on its roads electric by 2050.

To further promote green mobility, Dewa recently launched a Regulatory and Licensing Framework for developing and operating EV charging stations. This initiative is crucial for advancing Dubai’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Encouraging Private Sector Participation

Dewa has issued Independent Charge Point Operator (CPO) licenses to Tesla and UAEV, encouraging private sector involvement in enhancing green mobility infrastructure.

These efforts aim to boost investment, reduce emissions in the transport sector, and advance sustainable development in Dubai.
