The UAE is set to launch a basic health insurance scheme starting January 1, aimed at providing affordable and comprehensive healthcare for private sector employees and domestic workers. This important initiative ensures that essential medical services are accessible, highlighting the UAE’s dedication to the well-being of its workforce.

Who Is Eligible?
This scheme is mandatory for all private sector employees, including expatriates, as well as domestic workers throughout the UAE. Employers must enroll their employees in the insurance program to meet the regulations. Freelancers and small business owners with fewer employees can also take advantage of the scheme by choosing the same coverage for their teams.

How to Apply?
Employers can apply for the health insurance scheme through approved insurance providers or by visiting designated online portals authorized by the UAE government. The registration process involves submitting employee details, work permits, and necessary identification documents. Employers are encouraged to comply with the new policy before the January 1 deadline to avoid any penalties.

What Is the Cost and Coverage?
The basic health insurance plan is designed to be affordable, with premiums starting at AED 650 per year. Coverage includes essential health benefits such as outpatient consultations, emergency services, maternity care, and hospitalization. Employees will also have access to a network of healthcare providers, ensuring they receive quality medical care at competitive rates.

This initiative marks a significant step towards universal health coverage for the UAE’s workforce. By guaranteeing that all employees and domestic workers have access to affordable healthcare, the UAE reinforces its commitment to the health and safety of its residents, making the country an even more appealing destination for professionals and workers from around the globe.
