Dubai Health Insurance: Steps to Take if You’re on Your Husband’s Visa

If you are living in Dubai on your husband’s visa and are not working, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has outlined how to obtain health insurance. These regulations aim to ensure that all residents, regardless of their employment status, can access necessary healthcare coverage.

How Can You Get Health Insurance?
Even if you’re not employed, you can still secure health insurance through your husband’s employer or by purchasing a private policy. The DHA mandates that all residents must have health coverage, and for those on a spouse’s visa, the sponsor (your husband) usually holds this responsibility.

What Are the Options?
You can choose the health insurance plan offered by your husband’s employer (if available) or select an individual plan from a licensed insurer. Numerous insurance providers in Dubai offer various coverage options to suit different needs and budgets.

What Are the Costs and Coverage?
The costs will differ depending on the plan and provider, but basic health insurance plans generally start at around AED 650 per year. Coverage typically includes essential healthcare services such as doctor consultations, emergency care, and hospitalization. It’s crucial to review the details of your plan to ensure it meets the necessary standards.

DHA’s Guidelines
The DHA emphasizes the necessity of having valid health insurance to maintain your residency status in Dubai. If your husband’s employer does not provide coverage, you are required to obtain your insurance policy to adhere to local regulations.
