Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the winner in the Engineering and Technology category for 2023 through his official account on X (formerly Twitter).
This prestigious award was given to Professor Oussama Khatib, a Computer Science professor and Director of the Robotics Laboratory. Known for his groundbreaking work in robotics engineering, Professor Khatib has made significant scientific advancements in the field.
Outstanding Achievements in Robotics
Professor Khatib has published over 327 scientific papers, focusing on sensing technologies that have transformed robotics. His research has enabled robots to operate efficiently in various environments, advancing the field’s potential in remarkable ways.
One of his most notable creations is the OceanOne robot—a revolutionary humanoid designed for deep-sea exploration. This robot combines advanced haptic feedback, stereo vision, and bimanual manipulation, mimicking human movements with incredible precision.
Sheikh Mohammed congratulated Syria and Aleppo, emphasizing that the Arabs are capable of reclaiming their leadership in science and innovation.
