Around 400 passengers can ride in a single Etihad Rail passenger train, as revealed by engineer Kholoud Al Mazrouei in a video shared on social media. Kholoud, one of the few female engineers on the team, gave a sneak peek into the train’s features and its comfortable design.
The train will have two seating options: business class and economy class. The business class compartment will include 16 seats, while the economy class compartment will have 56 seats. However, the exact number of each type of compartment per train has not been confirmed yet.
The video, which is part of a series showcasing the Etihad Rail project, features content creator Shehab Al Hashemi and Emirati train captain Ibrahim Al Hammadi joining Kholoud on a test ride aboard the prototype.
Smooth and Comfortable Travel
Kholoud emphasized that even though the train travels at 200 km/h, passengers will feel relaxed. “You can enjoy a calm and comfortable ride and reach your destination stress-free,” she explained.
Earlier this year, it was announced during a global rail conference that the Etihad Rail will have a station in Sakamkam, Fujairah, and another at University City, Sharjah.
First-Class Amenities
The video showcased the train’s sleek interior, with light grey seats, wide and cozy designs, and headrests featuring the Etihad Rail logo. Some seats also had brown tables for added convenience. Economy-class seating appears to include rows of seats placed close together, designed for comfort during the journey.
Shehab expressed his excitement about the project and shared how the train will solve commuting challenges. “I travel to Dubai or other emirates two to three times a week,” he said. “This train is a game-changer with Wi-Fi, excellent catering, and hospitality services. It’s perfect for focusing on work without worrying about parking or driving.”
Scenic Journeys
Kholoud highlighted the unique experience of train travel in the UAE. “You’ll see stunning landscapes like the Almaha forests and Fujairah’s natural beauty,” she said. “Our route includes landmarks you wouldn’t normally see when driving.”
The Etihad Rail promises to connect the UAE like never before, with its 900-km railway linking all seven emirates and 11 major cities, from Ghuweifat to Fujairah. Once complete, the UAE will be the first Gulf country to link its rail system to neighboring nations.
Shehab described the trip as “one of the most beautiful and enjoyable transportation experiences” he’s ever had, highlighting the comfort, convenience, and breathtaking views.
