Key Details About the New PolicyAims of the Programme

This decision was announced by the Emirates Genome Council and approved during the UAE government’s annual meetings.

Key Details About the New Policy

  • Genetic testing can identify over 570 genetic mutations linked to hereditary diseases such as cardiomyopathy, genetic epilepsy, spinal muscular atrophy, hearing loss, cystic fibrosis, and other chronic conditions that are difficult to treat.
  • The initiative supports the creation of a national genetic database to proactively identify genetic conditions among Emiratis and enable early medical interventions.

Aims of the Programme

The Ministry of Health and Prevention highlighted that this move will revolutionize healthcare in the UAE. By using advanced genetic technologies, the programme aligns with the UAE Centennial Vision 2071, ensuring sustainable development and improved quality of life.

The Ministry has already provided medical staff, guidelines, and the technical framework to implement this programme successfully. It is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure a seamless rollout of the initiative as part of the National Genome Strategy.
