Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated the ambitious $5.42 billion Ken-Betwa River-Linking Project in Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts toward improved water management and irrigation. This project aims to connect the Ken and Betwa rivers, which will provide water to over 1 million hectares of agricultural land and benefit millions of residents in the region.
The river-linking initiative is expected to greatly enhance water availability in the drought-prone areas of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, thereby improving agricultural productivity, ensuring access to drinking water, and supporting hydroelectric power generation. This project is also a vital part of India’s larger vision to interlink rivers, addressing water scarcity and promoting regional development.
Alongside the project launch, PM Modi unveiled a commemorative stamp and coin to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This gesture honors Vajpayee’s legacy and his contributions to India’s development, especially in infrastructure and governance.
