Ex-PM Khan’s Wife Bushra Bibi Secures Bail Until January 13

The District and Sessions Court has granted interim bail to Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, until January 13. The bail relates to cases from the November 26 protest, according to ARY News.

Duty Judge Shabeer Bhatti presided over the hearing for her interim bail pleas. Bushra Bibi appeared in court with her legal team, seeking bail in four cases registered at Tarnol police station and three at Ramana police station.

The court approved her bail after she submitted surety bonds worth Rs50,000 for each case.

On December 21, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi had already granted her interim bail in 32 cases until January 13, her lawyer confirmed.

Reports state that Bushra Bibi appeared before the ATC alongside her legal team to request bail in a total of 32 cases. These included 23 cases linked to the May 9 violence. She was granted bail in cases registered across Rawalpindi, Attock, and Chakwal.

Her lawyer, Faisal Malik, argued that the cases against Bushra Bibi were “politically motivated” and aimed at retaliation. Speaking to the media, Malik said that the former first lady voluntarily appeared before the ATC, noting that she was named in 23 cases in Rawalpindi alone, as per ARY News.

The PTI launched protests on November 24, demanding the release of Imran Khan. Protesters moved from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Islamabad and gathered at D-Chowk by November 26. Security forces dispersed them late at night to end the demonstration.

PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram condemned the £190 million corruption case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, calling it an example of “political victimisation.” Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar on November 23, Akram warned that further injustices against Imran Khan would not be tolerated by the people.
