The Indian government has pledged its support for Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Kerala who is currently facing a death sentence in Yemen. The Ministry of External Affairs has stated that it is providing all possible assistance to help secure her release and ensure a fair resolution of her case. Nimisha Priya was convicted in a 2017 incident involving the murder of a Yemeni man, which she claims was an act of self-defense.

Priya’s family, along with various support groups, has been urging the Indian government to intervene diplomatically, emphasizing her innocence and the necessity for a thorough re-examination of the case. The ministry has confirmed that the Indian embassy in Yemen is collaborating closely with local authorities to explore legal options and ensure her well-being during this difficult time.

This case has garnered significant attention both in India and internationally, with human rights organizations and activists calling for her pardon or a reduced sentence. Many believe that cultural and linguistic barriers may have impeded her ability to adequately present her defense within Yemen’s legal system.

As efforts to secure her freedom progress, the Indian community is rallying in support of Nimisha Priya, urging the government to exhaust all avenues in bringing her home safely. Her situation highlights the challenges of ensuring legal representation and justice for Indian nationals working abroad in difficult circumstances.
