Kuwait has recorded a tragic upsurge in the number of fatalities from road accidents, with 284 people having been killed by traffic accidents during 2024. The dire situation has led the government to respond by taking tough measures. With the increasing rate of the situation, the government has announced it will introduce a new traffic law this year as part of a plan to reduce road accidents and promote safety on roads.

The new traffic law is believed to impose further stricter regulations, higher penalties on violations such as speeding, reckless driving, and not wearing seat belts. It is hoped by the government that such reforms will limit the dangerous act of driving to avoid more bloodshed. Better enforcement and a good public awareness campaign are deemed necessary to stop these kinds of deaths.

Penalties will be given a tougher measure, but still, the traffic regulations will improve traffic infrastructure. Their improvement includes: upgraded traffic signals on roads, safer pedestrian crossings along roads, more effective traffic roads, and good road markings are to be devised. Moreover, the government intended to increase more traffic police staff and implement such new technology.

With the disastrous effect of road crashes claiming lives from Kuwait, the new traffic law looks forward to saving many lives and promoting a culture of safer driving. As traffic accidents are expected to decline drastically in the coming years, the nation is hopeful for this change.
