Two Judges Shot Dead at Iran’s Supreme Court: Media Reports

Local media reports claimed that two Supreme Court judges in Iran were killed in a shocking shooting attack. Among the dead include two of Iran’s most well-known judges in the judiciary; Ali Razini and Mohammad Moghisseh. The assassination has sent the nation into chaos, and several questions arise in relation to the security at its highest legal institution.

The details about the shooting remain sketchy; however, the reports show that the attack was carried out on the two judges while at work. This tragic killing has been widely condemned in Iran by political and legal figures, as they are expressing shock and grieving over the death of two authoritative judicial figures. To date, authorities have not established the motive of the attack.

There has been a debate surrounding Razini and Moghisseh because they had always taken on the more contentious cases; it would thus be logical that their judicial work was linked to the attack. The Iranian government promised to hold the culprits accountable while ensuring an effective probe of the matter. The security personnel surrounding the Supreme Court also most probably tighten the noose on the ground following the attack.

It has come at a time when Iran is in its most sensitive stage, where judiciary and its position regarding political matters are very much in focus. The assassination of these two senior judges would have strong repercussions both politically and socially in the country.
