Philippines Removes 70,000 Fake Job Ads Amid Migrant Worker Scam Crackdown

The Philippines’ Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has taken significant steps to combat fraudulent employment schemes, removing 70,000 fake job postings from various platforms. These deceptive ads primarily targeted aspiring overseas workers, exploiting their hopes for better opportunities abroad.

The crackdown, which involved coordinated efforts between government agencies and online platforms, aims to protect Filipinos from falling prey to scams. Many of the fake job postings promised high-paying positions overseas but required upfront payments for processing fees, only to vanish after receiving the money.

DMW Secretary Susan Ople emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of migrant workers. “We will not tolerate exploitation of our people,” she said, urging job seekers to verify employment opportunities through official channels and licensed agencies.

The initiative has been lauded by advocacy groups and overseas Filipino worker (OFW) organizations, who have long called for stricter measures to address such scams. Authorities are also exploring partnerships with tech companies to prevent similar schemes in the future, ensuring a safer job-search experience for Filipinos.
