Bollywood filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has been convicted by the Andheri Magistrate Court in Mumbai to three months imprisonment in a cheque bounce case against him that was jailed way back in 2018. The conviction is under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, for cheque dishonor due to insufficient funds.
Varma did not appear for the hearing, which prompted the court to issue a non-bailable arrest warrant for his execution. He has also been asked to pay a compensation of Rs 3.72 lakh to the complainant within three months. In case he fails to pay the amount, then he will be given another three months of imprisonment.
One of the most famous filmmakers behind movies like “Aag” and “Sarkar,” Varma took to social media to comment on the news. He said that the case is related to an ex-employee who has created a controversy against him, and the matter is being dealt with by his lawyers.
