India’s Top Court Rejects Indrani Mukerjea’s Plea to Travel Abroad in Sheena Bora Case

India’s Supreme Court has turned down Indrani Mukerjea’s request to travel abroad while she is out on bail in the high-profile Sheena Bora murder case. Mukerjea, who was granted bail after spending six and a half years in custody, sought permission to leave the country for personal reasons.

The court determined that, considering the ongoing trial and the seriousness of the charges, it was not appropriate to allow her to travel outside India. The prosecution firmly opposed her request, arguing that she might evade legal proceedings if allowed to go abroad.

Mukerjea, a former media executive, was arrested in 2015 on charges of conspiring to murder her daughter, Sheena Bora, in 2012. The case has drawn national attention due to its complex family dynamics, hidden identities, and allegations of financial motives behind the crime.

As the trial continues, Mukerjea’s legal challenges persist as she awaits further hearings. The denial of her travel request highlights the judiciary’s careful stance on high-profile criminal cases in India.
