UAE’s Fishing Sector Pillar of Sustainable Food Security, Reveals Minister

The fishing sector in the UAE is critical to securing food sustainability, asserted Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, the Minister of Climate Change and Environment, when visiting Emirati fishermen at Kalba. The government was focused on facilitating support for the sector through balanced economic development versus ocean conservation policies, she highlighted.

During her tour, Dr. Amna interacted with fishermen in the region to learn about problems they are facing, such as the effects of climate change, overfishing issues, and the demand for modern equipment. She promised them ongoing support from the government, citing efforts to improve management of fisheries and ensure sustainable fishing.

The UAE is investing heavily in sustainable aquaculture and marine biodiversity conservation as a matter of food security strategy. Efforts such as artificial reef cultivation and expansion of fish farming are intended to replenish fish populations while keeping the ecological balance of the waters within the country intact.

With the UAE pushing on with its sustainability agenda, Dr. Amna reaffirmed that cooperation between the government and the fishing sector is key. She called on adopting sustainable fishing methods and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to achieving a sustainable and resilient seafood supply for generations to come.
