In a humanitarian step before the advent of the sacred month of Ramadan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, decreed the pardoning of 1,518 prisoners. An annual practice testifying to UAE values of grace, forgiveness, and second opportunity, the practice enables the prisoners released to reconnect with society and restart their lives.

The amnesty provides these people with a new lease on life, allowing them to rejoin their families in time for Ramadan, a period of spiritual renewal, hospitality, and goodness. It reflects the UAE’s values of promoting social cohesion and providing individuals with a chance to remake their lives. Most recipients of this scheme are likely to make positive contributions to society upon receiving the clemency.

Dubai officials, in consultation with the judiciary and law enforcement agencies, have started releasing the pardoned prisoners. The move is in line with the humanitarian policies of the UAE leadership, focusing on rehabilitation and compassion rather than punishment. It is also a testament to the government’s commitment to justice with a human face, ensuring that rehabilitated people are given a second lease of life.

This pardon is also part of an even larger endeavor witnessed throughout the UAE during the holy month of Ramadan, where similar pardons were issued by other emirates’ rulers. Such pardoning serves to show the country’s support for rehabilitation and social responsibility. The prisoners’ families are jubilant about this pardoning, and it has provided them with renewed hope and optimism in the month that is consecrated.
