Ramadan 2025: UAE Specialists Release Fasting Tips for Cancer Patients

As Ramadan 2025 nears, the UAE Oncology Society has published detailed guidelines for cancer patients planning to fast. Led by Professor Humaid Al-Shamsi, the guidelines outline straightforward but key steps to assist patients in making effective decisions regarding their health during the holy period.

For most cancer patients, fasting can be harmful to health, particularly for those who are undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, or recovery after surgery. The new guidelines stress seeking advice from oncologists prior to fasting, remaining well-hydrated during non-fasting periods, and having adequate nutrition to prevent complications.

Professor Al-Shamsi emphasizes that not everyone who has cancer must fast, especially those with compromised immunity or critical symptoms. Nevertheless, personalized medical guidance continues to be crucial, so that patients achieve spiritual comfort alongside physical welfare during Ramadan.
