Indian telecom major Airtel has joined hands with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to launch Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet in India, a major move to increase broadband penetration in the country.
As part of the partnership, Airtel and SpaceX will collaborate to provide Starlink hardware via Airtel’s extensive retail network, bringing satellite internet to rural and remote communities. The move is intended to close the digital divide, providing seamless connectivity to underserved communities.
Starlink, with its high-speed, low-latency internet, functions via a constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, ensuring consistent broadband connectivity even in the remotest areas. Through this alliance, Airtel will redesign connectivity solutions for enterprises, schools, and homes that do not have conventional broadband infrastructure.
This step reinforces India’s Digital India vision, encouraging education, innovation, and economic advancement. Subscribers can now anticipate new services packages, reduced prices, and wider coverage to transform access to the internet in the entire country.
