UK’s Keir Starmer Buries Putin in Ultimatum to Talk as Allies Rally Around Ukraine

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to come to peace negotiations, saying the Kremlin leader would “have to come to the table” eventually. Starmer spoke during a virtual coalition call with world leaders, reaffirming international backing for Ukraine and calling for a ceasefire.

The summit, hosted at Downing Street, gathered principal allies, such as representatives of the US, EU, and NATO, to negotiate diplomatic and military options. The leaders reiterated their pledges to support Ukraine with financial assistance, military equipment, and political assistance as the war moves into its next pivotal phase.

Starmer underlined that international pressure on Russia has to be ramped up in order to put a stop to hostilities. “We are together on our message—Ukraine’s sovereignty has to be maintained, and Putin cannot use force to dictate terms,” he stated, reaffirming a hardline approach against Russian expansion.

Despite repeated appeals from the international community, the Kremlin has given few signs of flexibility to negotiate. Western leaders, though, are adopting a firm strategy, advocating stricter sanctions and more diplomatic pressure to compel a compromise in upcoming peace talks.
