Kapil Dev Speaks on Indian Players’ Families Traveling: Then and Now

Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev has spoken about the increasing trend of cricketers taking their families along on international tours. The ex-World Cup-winning captain spoke about how things were done differently during his time.

Addressing an event recently, Kapil Dev underlined the point that though currently players usually bring their wives and kids along with them, cricketers from previous generations did not have similar restrictions. “In our generation, it was all about cricket and bonding together as a group. Families weren’t a part of foreign tours,” he remarked.

Kapil further added that family support indeed boosts the morale of a player but it’s also important to balance it to ensure attention is given to team bonding and performance. “The dynamics of the dressing room change when players have external commitments during a tour,” he explained.

His remarks follow continued debate in the Indian cricket community regarding the influence of off-field responsibilities on players’ focus and team camaraderie. Kapil stressed that every generation adjusts according to situations, but the fundamental principle must always be giving importance to the team’s success.
