Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport will finally go fully operational with its upgraded Terminal 1 (T1) on April 15, a key milestone in the airport’s infrastructure expansion. Airport officials confirmed that all flights currently serving from Terminal 2 (T2) would be shifted to the revamped T1, improving passenger flow and decongesting terminals.

The newly refurbished T1 features renovated check-in halls, state-of-the-art baggage handling systems, and expanded security areas to provide a better all-around passenger experience. The development project also consists of more gates, lounges, and business spaces, expecting a smoother and more comfortable passage through one of India’s most congested airports.

Airport officials said airlines and ground handlers are working together to have a smooth handover of flights from T2 to T1 with minimum disruption to travelers. Passengers are being asked to double-check terminal details before their flight to prevent confusion at the start of the changeover.

With the move, Terminal 2 will briefly halt passenger operations to go through its own set of renovations in accordance with Delhi Airport’s long-term master plan of modernization. The airport hopes to address increasing air traffic demand and further position itself as a major aviation hub in South Asia.
