Saudi Arabia has recorded a remarkable 31% increase in the number of Umrah pilgrims in the fourth quarter of 2024, based on new data announced by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. The boom indicates increasing passion among local and foreign devotees.

The volume of domestic pilgrims alone increased by 26%, indicating a strong recovery in religious travel. In the meantime, Mecca has recorded historic high participation of local pilgrims, which is the largest local attendance for Umrah since this time.

Officials blame the increase on better infrastructure, efficient visa procedures, and upgraded services for pilgrims, including smart crowd management systems. The boost is in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative to develop religious tourism and receive more worshippers annually.

The Kingdom is also prioritizing sustainable pilgrim experiences, with investment in transport and hospitality designed to make the Umrah experience safer and more comfortable for millions worldwide.
