Dubai Police Arrest 127 Beggars, Impound Dh50,000 in Ramadan Crackdown

127 people were arrested by the Dubai Police for begging and impounded Dh50,000 in a broad crackdown that coincided with Ramadan. Efforts to halt illegal begging, which often peaks during the holy month, have been increased by authorities.

The police are appealing to people not to hand cash directly to beggars and give it instead to licensed charities. Officials stated that most arrested beggars were using the essence of Ramadan as an excuse to collect illegally.

Anti-begging is part of Dubai Police’s broader drive to ensure safety and security throughout Ramadan. Members of the public are being asked to report beggars by dialling the police number or reporting it through the Dubai Police app.

The authorities again reminded that begging is prohibited in the UAE and issued a warning of severe punishment, including fines and deportation, to violators.
