Kuwait Approves $6M Assistance to Foreign Spouses after Revocation of Citizenship

Kuwait has sanctioned more than $6 million in support to foreign spouses following the recent cancellation of citizenship status of their spouses. The action is amid rising fears for the well-being of affected families, mostly non-Kuwaiti spouses and children.

Under officials, the assistance package seeks to offer stability for individuals who lost their lawful residence status due to the cancellation of citizenship. The aid will center on living basic expenses, health care, and education support for dependents.

In a related move, the government assured that female workers employed in the public sector, who were impacted by the step, will have their current job benefits. This encompasses exposure to allowances and job protection, so there is minimal disruption of their work lives.

The move comes after a series of discussions in Kuwaiti society regarding citizenship legislation and its humanitarian consequences. The authorities emphasized that other social programs and legal channels are under consideration to safeguard vulnerable members of the family affected by the changes.
