UAE Food Bank and Ne’ma Unite Against Food Waste

In a historic partnership, the UAE Food Bank has collaborated with Ne’ma to combat food waste and loss while feeding those in need through necessary meals. Under this joint effort, the program plans to distribute one million meals derived from unused surplus food, where the edible food will not be wasted but instead go to poor communities.

This initiative aligns with the UAE’s larger sustainability objectives, reinforcing the country’s commitment to curbing food waste and facilitating sustainable consumption. Through close coordination with restaurants, hotels, and supermarkets, the program will gather excess food that is safe for consumption and redirect it to needy communities. The program will also mobilize volunteers and food distribution networks to facilitate efficient delivery of meals to different locations.

Ne’ma, the UAE’s National Food Loss and Waste Initiative, has also been working towards minimizing food waste by promoting responsible consumption patterns among companies and individuals. Involving the UAE Food Bank as one of the main food redistribution partners, the initiative is likely to have a strong impact in terms of addressing hunger and reducing excess waste.

With food insecurity still a worldwide issue, the UAE keeps paving the way with creative solutions such as this. The project not only assists poor communities but also helps towards a cleaner and greener society. The community and businesses are invited to get involved by donating spare food or offering their time to help distribute.
