Yemen’s Houthis Strike Israel, US Warship with Missiles Amid Heightened Tensions

Yemen’s Houthi rebels said they fired missiles at Israel and a US warship in the Red Sea, fueling regional tensions. The Israeli military said it intercepted two missiles from Yemen en route to their targets, while the US has not yet confirmed the severity of the threat to its naval forces.

It forms part of an ongoing campaign waged by the Houthis in wake of the Israel-Gaza clash, with the militant group making repeated attacks against Israeli-associated ships and military property. Its latest attack showcases the growing prospect of broader war in the area, as Western forces increase patrol to deter dangers in key shipping lanes.

The US and its allies have threatened retaliatory measures against Houthi forces if these attacks continue. Israeli leaders meanwhile reaffirmed their determination to defend their territory against any outside attack. Analysts warn that ongoing missile attacks could escalate the US into direct conflict with Iran-backed Houthis.

As tensions rise, world leaders are urging diplomatic action to avert further destabilization in the region. With Red Sea shipping lanes already strained, the latest attack has raised fears about the wider economic and security consequences of the conflict.
