In a major fillip to India’s military prowess, the Cabinet has given approval to a Rs630 billion agreement to purchase 26 Rafale Marine jets for the Indian Navy. These state-of-the-art, 4.5-generation fighter jets will be based on the INS Vikrant, India’s newest aircraft carrier, augmenting the nation’s naval prowess.

The jets, produced by Dassault Aviation, are famous for their high maneuverability and advanced technology, providing sophisticated weapon systems and features essential for both offensive and defensive missions at sea. The acquisition is a step in the direction of the government’s overall strategy to modernize the military and strengthen national security.

This transaction is a major milestone in the development of India’s naval aviation, as the Rafale Marine fighter jets will be at the forefront of defending India’s maritime borders and enhancing its presence in the Indian Ocean region. The induction of these aircraft on the INS Vikrant is likely to revolutionize naval operations with their advanced stealth capabilities.

The agreement is likely to be sealed imminently, with the first batch of fighter jets to arrive in the near future. Inclusion of the advanced fighter planes will make India one of the top naval air powers, equipping the Indian Navy with a valuable advantage in terms of regional security issues.
