More Than 1,000 UAE Drivers Escaped Traffic Police in 2024

Over 1,000 UAE drivers tried to escape traffic police in 2024, which led the Ministry of Interior to issue a stern warning and make clear the harsh punishments for such irresponsible acts. Authorities are keen to stress that trying to escape a traffic officer is not only against the law—it is also a severe danger to public safety.

As per UAE law, motorists caught fleeing from police will be imposed with a Dh10,000 fine, 23 black points, and vehicle confiscation for up to 60 days. In case of the offense being dangerous driving or posing a risk to others, the punishment could be more severe, including possible imprisonment.

The Ministry clarified that the increasing number of such cases is alarming and appealed to drivers to submit promptly to police signals and traffic stops. “Running from the law just compounds the penalty,” one official said, and that surveillance systems and AI-tracking make it simpler than ever before to trace violators.

The authorities continue to intensify enforcement to guarantee the safety of all road users, reminding residents that dangerous driving will never be acceptable.
