Bomb Explosion Rocks Offices Connected to Greece Rail Tragedy Investigation

A bomb went off outside the Athens offices of a firm being investigated over its part in Greece’s fatal rail disaster last year. A warning call was received by a local paper about an hour before the explosion, enabling police to seal off the area in time to avoid any casualties.

The targeted firm has faced criticism over its contractual involvement in railway security systems that apparently malfunctioned before the February 2023 train collision, killing 57 people and triggering national protests.

Greek police report that the explosion happened at early morning and damaged the building entrance considerably but did not injure anyone. The investigators are now studying the security tapes and forensic samples obtained from the area to find the perpetrators.

Though no one has taken responsibility for the attack so far, the attack underscores current public discontent and outrage at the disaster. The attack follows cries for greater responsibility and openness within Greece’s transport sector.
