In a historic initiative, the American University of Sharjah (AUS) and Al Akhawayn University in Morocco have entered into an academic agreement to promote Arabic language scholarship and the creation of ethical artificial intelligence (AI). The partnership is a major milestone in bringing regional academic prowess together to tackle global linguistic and technological issues.
This agreement opens the door to joint research efforts, faculty and student mobility, and joint development of platforms supporting the Arabic language in academic, digital, and AI terms. One of the pillars of the accord also revolves around the effort to ensure that AI technologies are designed and utilized ethically and inclusively, in accordance with Arab cultural and linguistic values.
Leaders from both institutions stressed that the collaboration aims to globalize Arabic studies as well as lead the next generation of AI experts with a solid ethical background. The move is particularly timely as the need for inclusive AI and multilingual technologies increases globally.
Through this partnership, AUS and Al Akhawayn intend to become preeminent voices in Arabic scholarship and accountable AI, as well as equipping students with the tools to mold the future of tech and language studies in the Arab region and beyond.
