New Regulations to Tackle Road Safety in Dubai
In a bold move to enhance road safety and reduce accidents, Dubai Police have implemented strict vehicle impoundment rules targeting severe traffic violations. These amendments come as part of the ongoing efforts to promote safer driving conditions throughout the city.

Overview of the New Vehicle Impounding Rules
Following a comprehensive review of Decree No. 29 of 2015 and its amendments, the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police has announced the following changes regarding vehicle impounding durations based on the nature of the violations:

  1. 30-Day Impoundment for sudden vehicle deviation that endangers lives, property, or traffic safety.
  2. 30-Day Impoundment for failing to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
  3. 14-Day Impoundment for entering the road without ensuring it’s clear.
  4. 30-Day Impoundment for distracted driving due to phone use or other devices.
  5. 14-Day Impoundment for reversing dangerously, risking lives and property.
  6. 14-Day Impoundment for not adhering to lane discipline.
  7. 14-Day Impoundment for unjustified stopping in the middle of the road.
  8. 14-Day Impoundment for dangerous overtaking manoeuvres.
  9. 14-Day Impoundment for vehicles lacking essential safety features.
  10. 30-Day Impoundment for heavy vehicles failing to comply with lane discipline.
  11. 14-Day Impoundment for parking on the hard shoulder without an emergency or overtaking using the hard shoulder.
  12. 14-Day Impoundment for operating a vehicle without a license plate or with only one plate.
  13. 14-Day Impoundment for obstructing traffic while driving.
  14. 14-Day Impoundment for changing the vehicle’s colour without official permission.

These stringent measures are a clear indication of Dubai’s commitment to ensuring safer roads and reducing traffic incidents. Drivers are urged to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to avoid severe penalties and contribute to the overall safety of the community.
