Dubai: Moderate to heavy rain affected parts of Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah on Tuesday evening, prompting the Met Office to issue yellow and amber alerts for some eastern areas of the UAE.
According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), light to moderate rainfall occurred in Esfai, Masafi, Mamdooh, and Wadi Isfini, as well as the Al Heben Mountain area in Ras Al Khaimah. In Fujairah, the affected areas included Al Baha, Aasmah, Al Khlaibiyyah, Marbad, Siji, and Al Farfar.
Moderate to heavy rain was also recorded in Khor Fakkan, Daftah, Wadi Isfini, Wadi Al Ejeili, Al Heben Mountain, and Wadi Al Tuwa in Ras Al Khaimah. Heavy rainfall was reported on Al Watan Road towards Wadi Al Qor, Shawka Road, and Wadi Al Hilo.
The NCM has urged motorists to exercise caution, advising them to avoid driving unless necessary and to steer clear of areas prone to flash flooding or water accumulation. Drivers should also use low-beam headlights in reduced visibility conditions.
Rain and cloudy weather are expected across the country from Wednesday, October 23, to Friday, October 25. An NCM meteorologist explained that the current weather is due to moist easterly winds from the Oman Sea interacting with the Eastern mountains, leading to the formation of local convective clouds over the Eastern and Northern regions, increasing the chance of rainfall.
Rainfall Expected on Wednesday
The NCM stated that the formation of convective clouds in the Eastern and Northern parts of the UAE will raise the likelihood of rain during the day.
On Thursday and Friday, moist air from the Arabian Sea is expected to move toward the UAE, coinciding with a weak low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere and a relatively cold air mass. This combination will lead to further convective cloud formation over scattered areas, particularly in the Eastern and Western regions, with a chance of light to moderate rain, occasionally turning heavy.
The NCM also warned of strong winds, which may cause dust and sandstorms, reducing horizontal visibility at times.
