The Dubai Fountain, the city’s iconic attraction, will stop dazzling audiences for five months from next week, as Emaar embarks on its largest maintenance and tech overhaul since the attraction’s launch in 2009. In an unexpected move, the developer unveiled special rent discounts for 30+ F&B venues with restricted views at Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar.

Key Details
Duration: May 1 – September 30 (summer peak season).
Upgrade Scope: New LED systems, underwater robots for maintenance, and choreography using artificial intelligence.
Rent Relief: 15-25% relief for restaurants directly affected.

Which Businesses Are Affected?
Souk Al Bahar: Arabian Tea House, Abd El Wahab, Tribes.

Dubai Mall: Social House, Wafi Gourmet, Texas Roadhouse.

Exclusion: Prime Burj Khalifa-facing venues such as At.mosphere are excluded.

Compensation Strategy
Alternative Attractions: Augmented reality projections on Burj Khalifa to attract audiences.
Extended Promotions: Dine-in vouchers for fountain-view occupants.
Night Market: Temporary lakeside kiosks to keep crowds moving.

Why the Long Blackout?
1. First Major Overhaul: Original mechanical systems require replacement.
2. 2025 Ambitions: Preparing for 50% more powerful shows ahead of Expo 2025.
3. Sustainability Push: Solar-powered water filtration being installed.

By The Numbers
▸ 2.5 million liters of water to be drained & recycled.
▸ 1,200 new underwater LED fixtures being added.
▸ 14,000 daily visitors typically (summer drops to 8,000).

Emaar confirms grand return of fountain October 1 with never-before-seen extravaganza starring 7 new international soundtracks.
