The court also ordered the seizure of a whopping Dh150 million involved in the illegal transactions.
The billionaire, whose luxury lifestyle and assets made him a well-known figure in Dubai’s elite circles, was found guilty of using multiple corporate fronts to mask unlawful financial transactions. The case had been under investigation for several months, with authorities uncovering a complex network of offshore accounts and shell companies.
The ruling of the court also involves deportation after serving the jail term, as per UAE’s stringent anti-money laundering legislations. The accused had apparently denied any wrongdoings, but conclusive financial forensic evidence culminated in a conviction.
