Ras Al Khaimah has opened an innovative rehabilitation club inside its penal facility, targeting to revolutionize the way convicts are returned to society. The new institution is fitted with state-of-the-art educational and psychological equipment in order to spur individual growth and lower recidivism.
One of the most notable aspects of the rehab club is its large 9,000-title digital library, giving prisoners access to a vast array of educational, self-help, and literary content. It is one component of a wider initiative to foster lifelong learning and intellectual activity within prisons.
The prisoners will also receive the opportunity for supervised educational usage of laptops as well as e-learning. There are specially earmarked areas at the center for psychological counseling, mentorship training, and workshops for acquiring new skills, making rehabilitation a clearly defined journey.
Authorities commented that the project demonstrates an openness to reform correctional policy targeting rehabilitation over punishment. The plan is intended as a model of other rehab facilities throughout the UAE.
