UAE Rejects Sudan’s ICJ Case as Politically Motivated, Emphasizes Peace Commitment

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has categorically rejected Sudan’s case brought before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), describing the claims as “politically motivated and baseless.” The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a strong statement after the ICJ rejected Sudan’s complaint, affirming the country’s commitment to neutrality and constructive engagement in the current Sudanese conflict.

Reem Al Ketit, a senior official from the UAE foreign ministry, stressed the country’s commitment to regional stability and diplomacy. “The UAE remains steadfast in supporting peace initiatives in Sudan. We have always pushed for dialogue and de-escalation, instead of being part of political gamesmanship,” she stated. Al Ketit reiterated that Sudan’s accusations were meritless and strategically made to distract from domestic problems.

Sudan had accused the UAE of indirect and meddling support to its opposition groups in its conflict-plagued areas. The ICJ, however, found that there were not enough substantial grounds to pursue the case, citing a lack of concrete evidence. Legal analysts opined that the decision was a major setback to Sudan’s bid to internationalize its complaints in the midst of a mounting internal conflict.

In its response, the UAE called on the international community to realign its efforts towards solving the humanitarian crisis that is unfolding in Sudan. The nation committed continued humanitarian assistance and aid via multilateral organizations. “It is time to move beyond unfounded accusations and focus on the plight of the Sudanese people,” added Al Ketit.
