Mohanlal’s dark and intense Malayalam thriller “Thudarum” has swept the box office off its feet, crossing a staggering Rs1 billion worldwide while maintaining its dominance in UAE theaters. The movie registered a huge 351,603 total admissions from the UAE region alone, demonstrating its broad appeal and the sustained star power of Mohanlal among both domestic and expat Indian viewers.

The movie, which has captured the attention of audiences both in India and the Middle East with its tightly constructed suspense and Mohanlal’s powerful performance, is a cinematic rage. UAE viewers have overwhelmingly welcomed it with full-house weekend shows and late-night extended plays in top cities of Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi. The mix of psychological suspense and action supported by an engaging storyline has impressed critics and viewers alike.

“Thudarum”  is the story of a top-ranking policeman caught in a conspiracy that obfuscates the boundaries between justice and vendetta. Directed by respected director Ranjith Sankar, the film’s multi-layered storytelling and acute cinematography have won it praise at world film circuits and film festivals. Mohanlal’s authoritative screen presence and sensitive performance are being lauded as one of his best in recent years.

With its success spreading globally to the UAE, UK, and US, “Thudarum” is more than a regional phenomenon—it has been a defining moment for Malayalam cinema at the global level. The producers have thanked fans all over the world and left an indication that they may plan a sequel or a spin-off, paving the way for an extended “Thudarum” movie universe.
