Kerala Couple Designs Viral Met Gala Carpet for A-List Stars

Glamor of Met Gala 2025 was pegged—to literally ground up—by an artistically rooted creation of a Malayali couple in India. From Kerala came Sivam Santhosh who headed a 500-strong crew to make the now iconic blue carpet upon which went their turn walking a-list international superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Shakira, Diljit Dosanjh.

The carpet, one of the showpiece visual centers of the biggest night in the world of fashion, was prepared in 90 days of careful planning, dyeing, and weaving. Created to merge cultural meaning with contemporary creativity, the carpet combined Indian artisanal skills and Western sensibility, leaving critics and viewers amazed.

Sivam and his wife, who are both rooted in India’s textile tradition, explained that their goal was to “create a surface that wasn’t just walked on, but remembered.” Their efforts have since gone viral, earning the support of Met Gala organizers and igniting renewed international interest in Indian craftsmanship.

This year’s Met Gala theme was certainly “Future Forms,” but the roots were boldly spun from the past and present of Indian textile heritage. The achievement is not only a design success but a moment of pride for Indian craftsmanship on the global stage.
