Virtual Care Boom Cuts Dubai’s Hospital, Clinic, Pharmacy Visits

A new report from Dubai Health Authority reveals a sharp decline in the number of residents visiting hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies—thanks to the rapid adoption of virtual consultations, at-home medical care, and doorstep medicine delivery services. The post-pandemic shift has become a defining trend in the emirate’s evolving healthcare model.

Telehealth services, which became necessary in the time of COVID-19, now stand as a mainstream healthcare solution among the residents of Dubai. Individuals are even choosing to go online for doctor consultations and prescription delivery instead of conventional in-office visits, citing ease, time efficiency, and minimizing exposure to infections as major reasons.

Home medical visits have also jumped in popularity, particularly among the elderly and those with chronic illnesses. Trained practitioners now provide diagnostics, nursing care, and even simple procedures at patients’ bedsides—erasing the boundaries between hospitals and home care.

Dubai Health has highlighted its emphasis on expanding tech-based healthcare options, ensuring regulatory standards, and improving access to care as well as patient-centricity. The change is also lowering the burden on hospitals and emergency departments, making the system more streamlined for serious cases.
