Abu Dhabi Shuts Down Supermarket, Restaurant Due to Alarming Food Violations

Abu Dhabi authorities have closed down a supermarket and a restaurant after severe food safety violations, such as pest infestation, expired items, and unhygienic conditions. The shutdowns were conducted by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) after regular inspections revealed several violations of health regulations.

Inspectors encountered expired food products being offered for sale to consumers, filthy food storage conditions, and signs of pests like rodents and cockroaches in the two facilities. The low standards of hygiene had serious health implications for the public, requiring immediate intervention to safeguard consumers’ safety.

Authorities clarified that such infractions are given zero tolerance, and food outlets are supposed to strictly comply with health and safety laws. Closed outlets will only reopen after they have corrected all the infractions and have passed subsequent inspections.

Residents were encouraged by ADAFSA to report any suspected food safety concerns through official means, emphasizing the authority’s determination to uphold high levels of public health and food hygiene throughout the emirate.
