A lethal airstrike on the southern Gazan city of Khan Yunis has killed 28 individuals, local health officials report. The attack constitutes one of the deadliest individual strikes in weeks, deepening the conflict further.

The attack is said to have hit a crowded residential neighborhood, with homes reduced to rubble and infrastructure devastated. Emergency workers labored through the night to retrieve bodies from the debris, with survivors reporting scenes of devastation and destruction.

Witnesses described that whole families were buried under rubble, and hospitals in the surrounding area have been flooded with the wounded. The Gaza Health Ministry confirmed many of the dead were women and children, increasing demands for foreign intervention.

International humanitarian organizations have been extremely concerned about the rising civilian casualty, calling for a ceasefire and unimpeded access for aid. Khan Yunis is still in a precarious situation with search and rescue operations ongoing.
