Marcos Calls for Improved Insurance Coverage for Private Vehicle Passengers

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered a thorough review of the nation’s motor vehicle insurance policies, with special emphasis on improving coverage for private vehicle passengers. The action is intended to ensure all victims of road crashes are properly compensated, irrespective of the type of vehicle involved.

Today, passenger insurance coverage in private vehicles is still limited relative to those in public transport. President Marcos reinforced that this imbalance has to be rectified, and he underscored the government’s responsibility to safeguard all commuters equally in case of accidents.

“We want to ensure that all Filipinos—whether they are traveling in public or private vehicles—get fair and adequate pay if something goes wrong while on the road,” Marcos stated. The President has directed concerned agencies to work on new guidelines and recommend legislation, if need be.

Industry regulators and transport, as well as insurance, analysts have hailed the review as timely to synchronize the standards of the insurance industry with the increasing percentage of private cars’ users here. The undertaking also complements Marcos’ bigger road safety and social protection programs.
