In a record-breaking 15-hour surgery, Saudi experts successfully operated to separate Eritrean conjoined twins, as part of the 64th successful separation surgery of its kind under the Kingdom’s worldwide-acclaimed Conjoined Twins Program.

The twins, who had a few shared critical organs, were gently separated by a team of 38 medical specialists, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and pediatric specialists. The procedure was lengthy, involving months of planning, precision imaging, and practice runs to achieve the best results for the babies and their family.

Saudi Arabia’s Conjoined Twins Program, which was initiated in 1990, is now an international model of medical humanitarianism, and it gives free life-saving treatment to families from all over the world. The most recent case once again reflects the desire of the Kingdom for advanced pediatric medicine and international medical assistance.

Ministry of Health officials confirmed that the twins are in good health and under round-the-clock watch in a specialized post-op ward. While the family offered warm thanks, international media appreciated Saudi Arabia’s ongoing leadership in intricate children’s surgery.
