Oman Declares Five-Day Eid Al Adha Holiday Starting June 5

Oman has officially announced a five-day holiday for Eid Al Adha 2025, set to run from Thursday, June 5, to Monday, June 9. This extended break is in alignment with astronomical forecasts that suggest Eid Al Adha will fall on Friday, June 6. The holiday will begin with the Day of Arafah and continue through the three days of Eid, with an additional day off to compensate for the weekend overlap.

This announcement brings a sense of excitement for public and private sector employees, most of whom will have an unusual extended period in which to holiday, travel, or celebrate with their family and friends. The travel agencies and the hospitality industries alike in Oman and the region are already preparing for a significant pick in bookings as residents prepare their domestic and international getaways.

The Eid Al Adha holiday marks one of the most significant Islamic festivals, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. It is traditionally observed with communal prayers, family gatherings, and the ritual sacrifice of animals, with portions of meat distributed to the needy.

Although the dates are based on astronomical predictions, Oman’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs has clarified that the final confirmation will depend on the official moon sighting closer to the date. Until then, Omanis are embracing the spirit of the festival and planning ahead for a joyous and meaningful celebration.
