The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan has officially declared that Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7, 2025. This was after the committee met on Tuesday, May 27, where it was established that the Zil Hajj moon had not been sighted throughout the country. Therefore, the first day of Zil Hajj 1446 AH will begin on Thursday, May 29, 2025 .

Eid al-Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice is a very important Islamic festival that marks the demonstration of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) for sacrificing his son at the bidding of God. The celebration is characterized by prayer, good deeds, and the sacrificial slaughter of animals, representing obedience and loyalty.

Preparations are already in full swing in Gujranwala, Punjab, and elsewhere in Pakistan for the forthcoming celebrations. Bazaars are abuzz with activity as individuals buy sacrificial animals and plan for family reunions. Public holidays for the week surrounding the festival are likely to be declared by the government to allow nationwide celebration.

It’s interesting to note that although Pakistan will celebrate Eid al-Adha on June 7, other nations can celebrate on other dates depending on local moon sightings. For example, Saudi Arabia has decided to celebrate Eid al-Adha on June 6, as the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah was sighted in Saudi Arabia on May 27 .
