The Sultanate of Oman has officially declared that Eid Al Adha 2025 will fall on Friday, June 6, after the sighting of the Dhu Al Hijjah crescent moon was reported on Tuesday evening, May 27. The Moon Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs saw the sighting, declaring Wednesday, May 28, as the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah 1446 AH.

Eid Al Adha, or the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is one of the holiest Islamic festivals, celebrating Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice and devotion to sacrifice his son in compliance with Allah. The festival is characterized by specific prayers, acts of charity, and ritual sacrifice of animals representing devotion and compliance.

In Oman, the announcement aligns with several other countries, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which have also declared June 6 as the date for Eid Al Adha, following similar moon sightings.

The Omani government has declared a public holiday from Thursday, June 5, to Monday, June 9, providing residents with a five-day weekend to celebrate the occasion.
