Saudi Arabia has officially announced that Eid Al Adha 2025 will be observed on Friday, June 6, following the confirmed sighting of the Dhu Al Hijjah crescent moon on Tuesday evening, May 27. This sighting marks the beginning of Dhu Al Hijjah on Wednesday, May 28, setting the stage for Arafat Day on Thursday, June 5, and Eid celebrations the following day.

The crescent moon was visible in the Tamir area of Saudi Arabia, and the Moon Sighting Committee of the Supreme Court confirmed the sighting. This confirmation follows the Islamic lunar calendar, according to which Eid Al Adha will be on the 10th day of Dhu Al Hijjah.

Eid Al Adha, or the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is celebrated to honor Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) readiness to sacrifice his son as a sign of obedience to God. The holiday is characterized by special prayers, acts of charity, and ritual slaughter of animals, reenacting faithfulness and loyalty.

With the official declaration, preparations are being made throughout the Kingdom for this year’s religious holidays. Pilgrims making Hajj will congregate on Mount Arafat on June 5 to mark the crucial Arafat Day, which will culminate in Eid celebrations on June 6.
