A Filipino green card holder was released from US ICE custody after three months

After a contentious immigration detention, a Fil-Am man is released. After being held by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for almost three months, a Filipino green card holder was released. Earlier this year, Dixon, a long-time US resident, was arrested at the Seattle airport as he was re-entering the US from the Philippines.

Dixon had been returning to his home in Seattle after visiting family in the Philippines when authorities flagged his entry and took him into custody over alleged immigration inconsistencies. His case drew significant attention from immigrant rights groups and Filipino-American communities, who rallied for his release.

Citing Dixon’s spotless background and position as a lawful permanent resident, his legal team contended that his protracted and unjustified imprisonment was excessive. Dixon was ultimately freed this week without any official charges following months of legal fighting, enabling him to be with his family again.

Advocacy groups are now calling for greater transparency and accountability in how ICE handles legal residents returning from overseas travel, stressing the need for reform to protect the rights of permanent residents like Dixon.
